Some great restaurants in the city:

Zu den 3 Hacken: The Restaurant "Zu den 3 Hacken" spoils you with traditional Viennese cuisine in a historic setting. Big recommendation!
Motto am Fluss: Modern restaurant and food overlooking the Danube canal. Great food and drink selection. Also a great option for cocktails.
Haas Beisl: In the kitchen, the philosophy is "authentic Beisl cuisine with an uncompromising commitment to regionality". Wonderful authentic Viennese food.
Chez Bernhard: The restaurant with bar is located on the roof of a historic building from the 1870s. Not only the restaurant but the entire hotel is themed "Vienna meets Paris".
Brösl: Restaurant with focus on seasonality, regionality, and sustainability; cuisine with various influences from Central European to Mediterranean; own beer (also available for purchase).
Tian: If you're looking for a restaurant that serves only vegetarian/vegan dishes, Tian is a great choice! There is the restaurant, which is upper class, where you can choose between a 6 or 8-course meal.

Best coffee stops in the city to start your day:

Café korb: Right in the Center
Café Prückel: definitely the most popular non-touristy caféhouse
Café Goldegg: definitely the best pastries in a cafehouse—appleshrudel to die for:)
Cafe Jelinek: hipster, arts—the place where you find the Artists Hanging out.
Café Espresso: style in 1950s with original furnishings, mainly organic products; large selection of natural wines.
Fenster Café: For a fun and insta-worthy experience, grab yourself some coffee from a “window café” on one of Vienna’s side streets. What makes this even more special? They serve the coffee in waffle cones!
Café Drechsler: A Viennese icon since 1919. Immerse in its timeless charm and savour aromatic coffees & mouthwatering desserts. An urban haven where tradition meets contemporary flair, making every moment a delightful Viennese experience. Also a great place for breakfast!

HalbeStadt: Small, elegant, and cosmopolitan. The Halbestadt is located in one of the Stadtbahnbögen built by Otto Wagner. This means that guests can view the hustle and bustle of the Gürtel, one of the main thoroughfares of the city, through the glass facades of this cocktail bar.
Krypt: Located in a historic vaulted cellar is the smartest underground bar in Vienna. You would hardly believe it possible that the narrow stairway would open out into a 250-square-meter architectural jewel. Seldom is a bar in Vienna so generously laid out. A historic vaulted cellar with an alleged past as a semi-legal jazz club in the 1950s/1960s has been remodeled into a stylish, modern bar.

Just local knows - the wine region of Vienna

Heuriger Hirt - Another great place for a few and nice wine (also in the hills).
Pfarrplatz - This is also a great restaurant at the foot of the hills of the vineyards.
Zum Renner - (Our favorite..) amazing wines and food at moderate prices (at the foot of the hills).
Wieninger Am Nussberg - Here is a great place in the wine region (up in the hills) with a beautiful view

Meislmarkt (Kind of Boehmmarket – hipsterish)
Brunnenmarkt (biggest market – Viennes Mixed Ethnie Market)
Viktor Adler market (in the workingclass area - can’t get more authentic)
Servitenviertel: lovely charming area of 9th District. The area where Sigmund Freud lived

Helpful tips while visiting:

District (expensive - overpriced)
Clean – safe – efficant and very inexpensive
Avoid buying classical concert ticket
Avoid eating in the 1st District (expensive – overpriced)
Avoid going to the Naschmarket (expensive – touristy – pushy)
Avoid taking taxis (the public transport system in Vienna is the best in the world).
